How far away from eachother do plants have to be to grow?

How far away from each other do cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelons, and beens have to be planted to grow well? I’m starting a garden and don’t want the vegetables to smother themselves.

The seed packet or the plant container will tell you. They are different for each plant.

seed packets usually indicate the correct spacing, otherwise just imagine the full grown size of the plant and leave enough room

read your directions but normally small plants are 6 inches apart i think

it really depends on the type of plant it is or how long the roots extend. It is possible to plant then very closely together but often that would not yeild very health plant growth. So the most efficient/minimal amount of space to plant them in may be about 5-10 inches from each other.

    Good luck

the cucumbers need 12 square feet, the tomatoes need 16 square feet, the watermelons need 40 square feet, and the beans need 20 square feet

Cucumbers and pole beans can be grown on a trellis raising off the ground and they get more light. Tomatoes need cages put around them to help support the branches as fruit gets heavy. The cage will protect their space. Large melons need to be planted further apart on hills as they grow quite large. If you put down plastic mulch and overcrowd smaller plants like bush beans, it keeps down the weeds. You can really plant crops closer together than you think and get more.
Do a search on “square foot gardening” It shows how to get more produce with far less work. Good luck
