What age is appropriate to let girl highlight hair?

~Opinions from other parents please~
At what age do you think it’s appropriate to allow a girl to get highlights in her hair? Nothing outrageous, just highlights a couple shades lighter than her natural color.
My parents were old fashioned and didn’t allow me to do anything with my hair until I got out of High School. I think that’s extreme & I feel kids should be able to express themselves with their hairstyles.
What are your thoughts?

I think you should highlight your hair when you are a little bit older like lets say like around high school i do agree with your parents about that your hair is really delicate when your young but the appropriate age or getting them is about 16 or 17!!!!

Yes! You are right kids should be allowed to express themselves with their hair. I feel that what parents fear is that after time they will get out of hand and do something outrageous with their hair which they will end up regretting. I supose, being a young father of two 15 year old children, it’s their hair, they can do what they want, and if they end up looking stupid, then they’ve only got themselves to blame.

I first got mine done at 12.
nothing drastic.
it was about becoming a teenager for me.
it made me feel girly.
Ive got rid of them now, I’m coming up to 16.
Ive experimented with my hair colour, bought a chocolate truffle colour this morning acctually.
i never went off the rails with it either.
i still look respectible, no peroxide!
also!
try natural lighteners such as lemon juice, or shampoos designed for blondes.

18. I agree with your parents. I know people that let their kid do it at 9, but I strongly disagree. I’m ok with my kids “expressing themselves” through a haircut, but not a dye job.

We let our 13 year old get subtle highlights in her hair. I think that it helps girls to feel better and prettier when it is so hard to feel confident at that age. As long as it is subtle and natural looking - why not? Dont all women like to feel good about themselves? And if this is all she wants to do - count your blessings - at least she is not wanting piercings or tattoos!!

I believe the appropriate age to get highlights is 13 to 15. Maybe 11 or 12, if they have good hair care, but nothing under.
My friend got highlights when she was about 9 and 12, and her hair is in horrible condition. It’s much better to have your natural color in my opinion.
