Who do you go to to report unattended houses with uncut grass?

My Mom lives near a house that was once lived in by at least 4-6 people. Now the house sits vacant and the grass hasnt been cut in weeks. There are weeds growing and it has become an eyesore to the neighborhood. Who can I contact in my state about this?

911. The non-emergency number for them. They will then try to find the owner and issue a ticket.
Well whatever. I live in a small town and we don’t have code enforcement or animal control or non of that. We have a NON-Emergency number for the local police department that handles all that stuff. Thank you.

Call your Town Hall, City Hall, or other local government center and ask which office handles that sort of problem. DON’T call 911… it’s for emergencies only.

Contact your city’s code enforcement department, they will notify the owners and if they don’t take care of it the city will fine them, then if the city has to come take care of the grass and weeds themselves they will send a bill to the owner. Sometimes you have to make more than one complaint, as the city gets a lot of calls. Hope that helps.

Most city’s have a code enforcement number. look under city government.

No, you don’t call 911. You call the Code Enforcement division of your city’s planning and zoning department. If you live in the county, you call the county division of Weed & Pest Control. Overgrown weeds can lead to a fire and health hazard and the city/county usually acts on this very quickly.

I wouldn’t go the 911 route. Contact your town officials first since ultimately they will probably be the ones who have to send a crew out to take care of the lawn should the home owner refuse. Just go to the town court house and ask the clerk who you should speak to.
